Our story
Chomp Shopper was started by busy parents who were tired of turning recipes into grocery lists by hand.
It started with a simple problem
Like a lot of working parents, we dreaded one weekly chore: the grocery run. Not just the shopping, but the cycle of meal planning, recipe hunting, writing out ingredients and trying to remember what we actually needed. We spent hours planning, then still got to the store with half a list.
Weekends went to flipping through cookbooks, browsing sites like AllRecipes and Food Network, and scribbling lists that always missed one ingredient. We wanted a way to get from a recipe we liked to the groceries we needed without the copying.
"There has to be a better way to turn our favorite recipes into organized shopping lists."
We weren't alone
As we built something for ourselves, we heard the same story from others: parents rushing between work and school pickup, people who love trying new recipes but hate writing out the ingredients, students eating on a budget, and anyone who likes cooking more than list-making.
So Chomp Shopper became a tool built by a busy family, for busy families, with one goal: take the tedious part out of getting from a recipe to the groceries.
What it does today
- Reads recipes wherever they are. A website link, a photo of a cookbook page, a PDF or Word file, or an Instagram post.
- Sorts one list by store aisle. Ingredients from several recipes are combined and grouped into the same 12 store sections every time.
- Gets the groceries bought. Check items off on your phone in the store, email the list, or send it to Instacart. Sending to Instacart is free for everyone.
- Plans the week. The meal planner is free for everyone, and turns a week of meals into one list.
Looking forward
We keep improving Chomp Shopper from real feedback: reading more recipe sites, sorting ingredients more accurately, and making the list easier to use in the store. If something didn't work for you, tell us.
